After IM 2: Time to say 'good-bye' and 'hello'...

With the passing of Iron Man 2 into Spring movie history, it is time for me to say good-bye to this site and hello to a larger Marvel Movie blog project...

The recent Media Blockbuster event that was Iron Man 2 has pretty much come and gone now, and this has left me thinking. You see, originally I started this blog just for fun and because I thought it would be fun to be like so many other comicbook movie fans on the interweb who have decided to go ahead and fashion their own receptacles for movie info, pictures, video clips and other miscellaneous items. Well at some point I came to the realization that I no longer had a strong desire to post on mainly Iron Man movie related matters, while at the same time I had a growing desire to talk about the other upcoming Marvel movie projects in development. I have realized that I should instead set up a site which would allow me to discuss the collective subject matter of the future Marvel movies as a whole. Following this realization, I decided to go ahead and set up a new blog for my interest in Marvel movie projects and aptly titled it, the Marvel Zombie Movie Patrol. So now I have this new site up and running and that has pretty much spelled the end of this here future Iron Man movies site. It only makes sense to focus my efforts on one site instead of both of them since the new site easily incorporates my fondness for everything Iron Man.

I will of course leave this site up for the foreseeable future - it is not costing me anything after all (it is a free blogger blog) and I am still proud enough of my past efforts on here to leave it up for any future visitors who might come calling.

So now I guess this is the point in this (final) post where I invite you to come join me over at my new Marvel movie pad, at the Marvel Zombie Movie Patrol, Just one Marvel Comics Fan's update of what's coming soon from 'the House of Ideas'.

Yes I know it sounds corny but I am a Marvel fan after all.

IRON MAN 2: Round Two Is About To Begin!

The new Iron Man 2 movie is almost upon us - it opens at Midnight tonight in my neighbourhood, and of course it has already started playing at theaters in various countries around the World! With the release of the movie we are now of course head-on into the deluge of media advertising that is always to be expected by such a big budget spectacle movie. From 7-11 drink cups and straws to chocolate bars to many a cool toy, I am seeing so much stuff out there that pretty much any IM2 fans interests and desires look to be covered. I am pretty certain that I will be making aconcertyed effort to see the movie over the weekend, however it won't be the end of the world if I dont get to it until next week. Unlike the first time around, this time I have kind of spoiled it for myself by reading online reports of what teaser scene is included after the credits of this sequel. Nobody to blame but myself, lol. From what I have seen the movie will not be released anywhere around here in 3-D but will be available in a special Imax presentation; I already know that if it had been released in 3-D for wide release I would not have gone to a 3-D screening and would have gone out of my way to see it in regular 2-D instead just because like the recent Clash of the Titans movie, IM2 was not made to be in 3-D so anything added to it now is just not that impressive to me. I think that me and James Cameron feel the same way about this...

Next time Ipost on here I hope to include a mini-review. Fingers crossed!

A New IM2 Movie Trailer And A New IM2 Movie Poster

Here is what I consider to be the most kick-ass as well as the most revealing(plot-wise, at least) of all of the advance trailers for the Iron Man 2 movie so far. This one definitely fleshes out some more of the upcoming movie's plotlines, as well as giving us some more idea of the other supporting characters and their relationships as they are likely to be included in the movie. I especially like the idea that Tony Stark has not just been sitting on his laurels since the last film, with this latest trailer including a strong hint that he has definitely been busy coming up with new armor designs! (just watch to the end of the trailer to see what I am talking about here)

Below that you will see the most up to date of the IM2 movie posters that has been released recently. This poster harkens back to the format of the last movie poster, with its collection of central characters being depicted in dramatic poses, except this time around the villains did not seemto make the cut on it. Beyond IM2: Downey Jr Happy Enough To Be in 3?

I don't know if this is really so much news as it is just a cool tidbit about Robert downey Jr. and his feelings about the future of the Marvel franchise:(courtesy of digitalspy.com)

Robert Downey Jr has reportedly revealed that he is looking forward to shooting Iron Man 3.
Speaking to The AP, the 44-year-old claimed that he "aims to suit up" for a third film in the superhero franchise.
Marvel Studios and director Jon Favreau have yet to confirm plans for the rumoured third Iron Man movie.
Iron Man 2 arrives in US cinemas in May. Marvel is also scheduled to release Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America in 2011, plus an Avengers movie in 2012.

well this here little blog has been pretty much dormant for the better part of a year. ( okay, for more than a year, but it's not like there have not been more than enough sources of updated information on all things Iron Man 2 on the interweb during that time) Anyway, I thought that the least I could do to maybe start getting back on the Iron Man movies update wagon would be to put up the recently released first teaser poster for the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie coming from Marvel Entertainment next May. (May 7th, 2010, to be precise!) Enjoy!

Iron Man DVD release announced and some Iron Man 2 news

Here are afew tidbits of Iron Man info floating around out there on the interweb.

The Iron Man DVD is set to be released for sale to the public on September 30th; in a smart marketing move, also set to be released on the very same day is the 1998 David Hasselhoff TV movie vehicle, Nick Fury. This movie would have next to no appeal to anyone if it weren't for the appearance of the Nick Fury character at the end of the Iron Man movie last Summer. Very smart marketing to make this old movie available when the idea of Nick Fury will once again be in the consumer's conscious the day Iron Man goes on sale.

As well, it has been confirmed by the two Iron Man screenwriters themselves, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, that they will not be back to write the sequel. Instead they are setting their sites on one of the other Marvel properties out there. It could even be one that has a tentative writer already assigned, such as Captain America, Thor or the Avengers. Justin Theroux has been named to replace the two departing writers on Iron Man 2.

Speaking of Captain America, a recent (now largely debunked) rumour had Will Smith, who will next be seen in the Seven Pounds movie this December, in talks with Marvel Studios for the role of the shield bearing avenger. Like I said, this has now been largely debunked. (see Splashpage for more details on this)

IRON MAN MOVIE: Tony stark Cameo Easter Egg!

Well I just went and saw the new Incredible Hulk movie last Friday night (the 7 pm show, to be precise) and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised; the plotting of the movie was surprisingly brisk, getting us up to speed on the character's backstory without sacrificing the story's flow.

The acting for a comicbook movie was pretty strong - it helps to have Ed Norton, Tim Roth, and William Hurt in your cast. As for Liv Tyler, well she didn't hurt , I guess.

The CGI effects were very impressive, with slow pans of the Hulk giving us decent detail and the effects didnt get too fuzzy during the various fight scenes, either.

As for the heavily rumoured Iron Man cameo? Yes it was there right at the end of the movie -but luckily before the end credits for those of you too impatient to sit through such things. We were treated to a scene between Hurt and Downey Jr having an informal chat in a bar (and no, Tony Stark was not drinking). This chat had some cryptic reference to a team being brought together, but for any fans of Marvel comic books and their subsequent comic book movies, it was an obvious reference to the upcoming Avengers movie project. There were even veiled references to the Super Soldier program and the Super Soldier serum from WWII (ie. Captain America source material) along with an action sequence that showed how Captain America might work in the Marvel movie universe.

Yay! we have more Marvel movie goodness to look forward to.

IRON MAN MOVIE: Who will dethrone the Iron King?

So who are the contenders?

It has been almost a month now since the theatrical release of the Iron Man movie (it was released in the US on May 2nd - it seems so long ago now, huh?). Honestly, it was an awesome movie-going experience for me and many more thousands of comic book fanboys worldwide. Now it is time to look ahead and wonder: 'what will be the likely Super Hero movie successor to Iron Man this summer at the box office?'

Well, looking down the list, there are a few likely candidates; Just let me prefice this by saying that , in my book, Indiana Jones does NOT qualify as a super hero flick, okay?

So, who's up to bat first? A big batter: the Incredible Hulk movie. This one is a Marvel movie, but it just doesn't seem to be getting the kind of natural buzz that Iron Man benefited from. It probably doesn't help that there was recently a dispute between Hulk star Ed Norton and Universal Studios over the final cut of the upcoming movie (June 13th). A ramification of this was Norton reportedly refusing to do any PR work for the movie. That could explain some of the lack of 'pop' for this film so far. It might do well but it won't recapture the Iron Man buzz.

June 27th sees the release of the Angelina Jolie , Wanted movie. This is based on a great comic mini-series from Mark Millar, so it is acomic based effort but not really a super hero flick - it's actually quite an anti-hero kind of film. Either way, this one is not getting anywhere enough buzz at this point for me to give it much of a 'shot' (sorry) at being the next hero flick with legs.

On July 4th we have something interesting: Will Smith's pseudo super hero Hancock movie. It might be about a character with no existing history, but when you put Will Smith and Summer blockbuster together it usually equals a strong box office, so this one could be acontender.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army is sceduled for release the following week but it has less chance of being a nother huge Summer hit - it should do ewell enough just not on the scale of Iron Man.

Okay, here is the one that I will be waiting for and watching the early boxoffice performance of most carefully: Batman: The Dark Knight. It overcame adversity (set fires) and tragedy (the death of Heath Ledger) and still was completed as intended. this one has been slowly building up buzz after the release of the latest trailer (shown before Iron Man ironically) and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

So there you have it: the successor to Iron Man's title of reigning Summer box office super hero may just be the longtime competition: DC Comics and their iconic Dark Knight, the Batman.

When I go to see this one, I might just go with a smile.

Iron Man movie: After the Storm

So I saw the Iron Man movie on Monday night, and what can I say? I was blown away.

I went in knowing it was going to be spectacular, I mean we had all seen the trailers so I was ready to be impressed. But still: I can't believe how often during the film I either caught myself laughing out loud at something (intentionally) funny on the screen or thought to myself 'yeah1 That rocks!' Despite my preparation I was still surprisingly impressed.

So where do we go from here?

Everybody has heard by now tha the film is a real big success sofar, raking in over $100 million in the US during its opening weekend, and possible over $200 million worldwide.

Ka-Ching.

On Monday Marvel came out with the bold announcement that there would in fact be a sequel to the Iron Man movie. This is not as surprising an announcement as many might think: even if the film had not been such a huge opening weekend success the intention to make a sequel was there. I already read aweek ago that Robert Downey Jr. had signed on for a three picture deal with Iron Man. Of course even the first Hulk movie had a decent opening weekend but subsequently dropped off due to negative word of mouth. Marvel still felt confident to green light a Hulk sequel, though.

The most interesting tidbit for me, however, was the pay-off received for sitting through the Iron Man closing credits.

** SPOILER ALERT **

Okay, if you haven't seen the movie yet, you might want to leave now just so that I don't ruin anything for you. At the close of the credits,us fanboys were treated to an extra scene featuring Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD! This was anice set up for the sequel, as well as an introduction to the concept of the Avengers in the future.

The next stop on my Summer movie roster will probably be the Incredible Hulk movie, in large part because of the heavily rumored cameo by Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. If only William Hurt had not given this one away already in an interview, it would have made for one Hell of a surprise, eh?

All in all, and at the end of the day, I would have to say that Iron Man was that most rare of super hero movies: a very pleasant surprise. Nest stop: Hulk!

Iron Man Movie: LG rolls out the Iron bells and whistles, Man

As people everywhere are starting to notice, the cellphone manufacturer LG has opened up their new Iron Man movie tie-in website, insidethesuitdotcom. It takes an interesting approach in its promotion of the new Ironman movie : the site gives you the perspective of someone wearing the Ironman armor and even shows you picking up various objects with armored gauntlets on your hands! The site lets you check out the new Iron man phones and even gives you the opportunity to win one of twenty limited edition Iron man phones dipped in pure gold!

Well, if you live in the US you have a chance, if not then you don't. I live in Canada, so I guess I'm s o l. Oh well, guess I will just have to go and admire my 7-11 Iron Man mug some more (thanks again to my Fiance for bringing it back from her excursion across the border last week). You just gotta love that Iron Man movie merchandise ...

Iron Man Movie: Recent Odds and Ends

First off, I came across this new Iron Man movie clip on the interweb; It has been labelled "Run before you can walk". It contains some very, very nice effects.

second, I was in a Toys R Us today, and found the 'Iron Man section' of the store : not much of a section really because the store is undergoing some major renovations. Still the important thing is the merchandise and they had it there in spades. My favorite so far has to be the twelve inch Iron Man Mark III figure.

Finally, I have read enough posts on the web about the Iron Man movie merchandise starting to show up at 7-11, that I have to make sure to pop into one on the way home soon - before things start to sell out. ( *cringe* Horror of horrors)

I should say at the outset that I will go and see the new Iron Man movie when it opens.

Duh.

I'm a comic book geek and I love comic book-based movies. Always have. I guess what I want to say here is that I am just the tiniest bit concerned that the new Iron Man flick will come off looking to some degree like little more than a video game. I realize that technology has now reached the point where you can have a video game console sitting in your home that allows you to play games with graphics that look like something that not so long ago you could only see on the big screen. I also think that somewhere along the way, we have gotten used to playing games in the comfort of our own homes that have matched (if not surpassed) what we used to go and pay to play in the arcades. You can argue that the actual game play of most games sometimes falters, but the cut scenes in many games are really quite impressive.

It isn't just the constant improvement of game graphics that hasd me wondering about the new Iron Man movie though: it's the latest new Iron Man movie trailer.

Remember all the way back to super Bowl Sunday?

If you are a Patriots fan then I apologise for dredging that memory up for you. The reason I mention it is because that was when the masses got their first glimpse of the newest Iron Man trailer, and got their chance to think to themselves 'cool' or 'not so cool'. Many of us had already seen an earlier trailer online or in the theaters and really only noticed that this time we got to see Tony stark practicing his newfound 'flying' abilities ("yeah, I can fly"). However I noticed something else: this trailer really was the first time i thought to myself, 'hmmmm, this movie might look a lot like a video game'...

This is probably a good time to let you watch the trailer yourself so that it is fresh in your mind, so enjoy:

Now this might not be all that bad, in fact some of my friends might even be more inclined to see it if that is the case, however I can't help but think that this has been a growing trend in the last ten years - give or take. In fact, in the last year I can think of at least one major studio release which suffered in appearance - but not necessarily at the box office, because its CGI aspects looked too much like a video game and not enough like a live action movie. In the movie I Am Legend, the scenes involving Will Smith driving around a future disease-ridden New York looked more like something out of a racing game than a big budget movie. even some of the scenes with the vampire-like creatures looked almost like video game graphics than movie effects.

Maybe it's just a combination of two things: firstly, that near-movie quality graphics are more affordable for video game makers now, and secondly, that I am old enough to remember when only movie studios could afford to have those levels of visuals.

Wow.

Is it possible that in today's world you can become a pseudo old fogy before you even reach say ... forty?

Iron Man Super Bowl commercial: 'Yeah, he can fly.'

well, Super Bowl Sunday has come and gone and we actually got a close, exciting game. We also got a new Iron Man Super Bowl commercial / trailer. basically we were shown some more action sequences intercut with some 'look at me testing my armor' sequences, tightly cut together. The look is nice and slick but I really think they (Marvel) are trying to avoid showing too many of their 'visual cards' to the public too early.

Regardless, the armor still looks very cool. After everything, I think that the New england Patriots have a lot more to be disapointed about than anyone who was expecting more from the new Iron Man Super Bowl movie commercial...

Putting the Hurt on the Hulk?

Here is a quick shout out of an interesting post I just stumbled across today; it is discussing some of the details about the reported crossover / cameo of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the upcoming Incredible Hulk movie as revealed by Hulk film co-star, William Hurt. In short, it seems that Mr. Hurt was a bit too willing to spill the beans on some of the details regarding the Hulk - Iron Man crossover sequence.

The Iron man movie action figures

OKAY, NOW THESE ARE JUST TEARS...

Following on the heels of my posting of the 12 inch IRON MAN figure, I have some new images of the new line of IRON MAN movie action figures that will be released in conjunction with the upcoming IRON MAN film. They are nice - they don't excite me (or cause eye hemorrhaging) in the same way that the 12 inch iron bad-boy does, but they look decent (at least at this promo picture stage, anyway).

Now I just want to know what, if anything, Marvel has planned for any subsequent series of figures; More action figures baesed on characters like Stane, the Mandarin and Jim Rhodes would all be options...

'We're in the Money...'

So I was reading today that the companies partnered with this May's Iron Man movie are starting to reveal themselves; so far there are no real surprises here: companies like 7-11, Burgerking and LG were all mentioned. Okay, there was at least one surprise (or maybe not if you have watched the iron man movie trailer): auto maker Audi. Audi will be tying in the launch of their new R8 sportscar with the iron man movie. 7-11 and Burgerking likely means rather unhealthy eating habits for me this Spring for the sake of cheesy plastic trinkets, and my current Cellphone plan runs out in May (how convenient ...), so maybe LG will actually have a chance of competing with Sony Ericsson for my affections. I'm so easy, just a promotion whore, really...

BTW, the REAL heavy promotion by Paramount for the movie will begin with a Super Bowl ad this February

HEAVY ARMOR: IRON MAN MOVIE SUITS

Checking out the suits Robert Downey Jr. is seen wearing in the Iron Man movie trailer.

While most comic films feature only one version of superhero garb per leading man, the Iron Man trailer pulls out all the stops with three confirmed models of Ol’ Shellhead’s mechanical outfit. Each one plays a different role in Tony Stark’s war on crime and luckily (unlike the Dark Knight in “Batman Forever”), there’re no nipples!

MARK I
Initially constructed by Stark out of spare industrial parts after he’s kidnapped by terrorists, this clunky robot-looking suit provides Stark’s escape and packs a flame-thrower, rocket launcher and a tough outer shell. When one attacker sneaks up to shoot Stark in the back of the head at point-blank range, the bullet ricochets off and back into the jerk’s own noggin!

“We got the Mark I out which we took a little bit of leeway with because in the [comic] books it really doesn’t make sense that he would make that out of spare parts,” laughs “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau. “But we wanted to keep the personality of it. Everyone was like, ‘Holy sh--, that’s so cool!’”

MARK II
Seen for a split second in the “Iron Man” trailer and only from the shoulders up, this “evil” version of the armor stands somewhere in terms of design between the clunkier Mark I and the sleeker Mark III. Towering in size at about 8 feet tall, this version’s weapons system hasn’t been fully displayed. But what makes it evil? Gwyneth Paltrow, seen overshadowed by the suit during a display of sneak preview footage at San Diego Comic-Con, knows all too well.

“That’s Iron Monger,” the actress says with a smile. Looks like at some point, the film’s main villain, Obadiah Stane, follows in his comic book namesake’s footsteps and dons the Mark II to become Iron Monger.

MARK III
More closely resembling the suit worn by Iron Man in today’s comic books, this so-sleek-it’s-practically-a-jet version packs a powerful high-five thanks to gauntlets on the palm that emit repulsor rays and boots augmented with flight enhancers that allow for high-speed, mid-air maneuverability. Favreau says he wanted an authentic suit instead of a special effects extravaganza and it paid off after fans saw the final version.

“They were like, ‘Wait, it’s not a fake. It’s a real suit with a real guy!’” boasts the director. “Of course we could do different stuff in CG than it can for real, and that’s what becomes [a] difficulty. You don’t want [him] to be moving around like Robocop and then he flies through the air and looks like Spider-Man.”
